One of Australasia's most successful mares in recent memory continues to shine for her stateside connections in advance of her Northern hemisphere racing career in 2022.
The inaugural Group 1 $250,000 Rising Sun Three- and Four-Year-Old Championship Pace — the biggest purse race in the Southern Hemisphere for three- and four-year olds — over 2,138 meters (1 and 5/16th mile) was won at Australia’s Albion Park five-eighth mile track by the completely North American owned four-year-old superstar Bettors Delight mare Amazing Dream, the only mare in the race. The win, in a 1:54.9 mile rate — last half in 55.2 — pushed the mare’s lifetime earnings to $1,097,384 (Stats 37-21-7-5), and marked her eighth Group 1 win.
Amazing Dream beat Australasia’s best colts, including Expensive Ego and Copy That, replicating her earlier win of The Auckland Cup against Australasia’s best aged horses in the New Zealand classic over two miles.
Trained by Nathan Purdon — the 25-year-old son of legendary New Zealand trainer Mark Purdon — and driven by Mark Purdon, the win created an emotional winners circle.
Owned by Gordon Banks, Marc Hanover, Richard Gutnick, Thomas Pontone and Joseph Lozito Jr., plans are for Amazing Dream to come to North America around year's end in preparation for a 2022 U.S. campaign.
