Trotting lovers got their money’s worth at Summerside Raceway on Tuesday evening, as the half-mile hosted four divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes

for the square gaiters.

Waiting On A Woman extended his winning streak to nine-in-a-row thanks to a 16-length romp in the second division for the sophomores. The son of Northern Bailey-Southwind Faith rolled the field through panels of :28.3, :58.1 and 1:28.4 before using a :30.2 closing panel to stop the teletimer in 1:59.1 – a clocking that obliterated the former track standard of 2:02.1 for three-year-old trotting geldings. That mark was set by Dunmore Shadow in 2002. The runner-up award in Tuesday’s record-setting mile went to Mile Hill Bo, while the bronze medal went to Harmony T.

Corey MacPherson guided the homebred to victory for co-owner/trainer Mitch Tierney and David Tierney of Cornwall, PEI. The gelding put together a 10-1-1 record from 12 starts last season, and Tuesday’s win gives him a 2-for-2 record to start the 2011 campaign. He has banked close to $42,000 to date.

The first division for the three-year-olds went to Maple Leaf Spirit, who went wire-to-wire in 2:03.1 for trainer/driver Ralph Annear. The daughter of Meadowagogo-Maple Leaf Legacy sliced out splits of :31, 1:01.2 and 1:33.1 before scooting home in a :30-second clip to win by 3-1/2 lengths over B J High Meadow. West River Victory rounded out the top three finishers.

Annear, who shares ownership on the photogenic performer with Steven Sorrie of Montague, PEI, watched the filly improve this year’s record to 2-for-2 while her overall record improved to 10-6-0 in 16 starts. She has stashed away close to $42,000 in lifetime earnings.

Majian Chester made his pari-mutuel debut a winning one in the first $7,300 split for two-year-old trotters. He sat a pocket trip to the half for trainer/driver James Ripley before marching to the top and cruising to a 2-1/4 lengths decision over Dusty Red Lane in 2:11.3. Third prize in the six-horse affair went to A V C Miracle.

Marylea Ripley of Amherst, NS holds the ownership papers on the chestnut son of Nikes Image-System.

Moulded Image finished third in his first lifetime start, but he was a 2:09.2 winner in Tuesday’s second kick at the can. The son of Meadowagogo-Chloe K took over the lead shortly past the three-quarter pole and drew clear to win over his rookie foes by 1-3/4 lengths. Majian Dillon was next best, with B J Carmalyte rounding out the top three finishers.

Leonard Myers did the driving for trainer Tom Weatherbie, who co-owns the colt with Blair Hansen and John Cormier of Charlottetown, PEI.
