Danas Sharp Smart and Magnum Kosmos produced the fastest times in their respective classes in Saturday night’s W.N. Reynolds Memorial stakes action at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs
. The Reynolds races are the highlight of Grand Circuit Week at the track.
On Saturday night, there were three “Tar Heel” divisions of the Reynolds held for three-year-old colts and geldings on the pace, with purses ranging from $25,967 to $26,367. There were also two “Scott Frost” divisions for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings, each with a purse of $33,350.
Danas Sharp Smart righted himself from a recent slump with a rallying victory in his Tar Heel division in 1:51.1. Dave Palone did the driving for trainer Linda Toscano.
In other Tar Heel action, Mc Rusty, driven by George Napolitano Jr. and trained by Steve Elliott, won his split in 1:51.3, while Hone The Razor, with Matt Kakaley doing the driving for trainer, George Teague Jr., captured a division in 1:52.2.
Magnum Kosmos was a dominant force in the Scott Frost, winning his split by eight and three-quarter lengths in 1:54. Palone did the driving for trainer Tony Dinges. Palone also led Opening Night, trained by Jim Campbell, to a victory in the other Scott Frost split in 1:54:2.
Palone’s three stakes wins on the night came on the heels of four Reynolds wins on Friday.
Grand Circuit Week concludes at Pocono on Tuesday night with Reynolds races for two-year-old colts and geldings on the pace and thre-year-old fillies on the trot.
