Miki Shan N kept his undefeated Atlantic Canada record intact as he ventured to Prince Edward Island for the first time this year to win the Canada Day feature on Wednesday, July 1 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
He delivered as the heavy favourite in the $6,250 Preferred 2 Pace for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Chris Mackay, cutting the mile and sprinting home in :27 to win in 1:54.2. The seven-year-old followed Freemans Legacy (Jaycob Sweet) into the first turn on the rim, carrying on after that one cleared to take control at the quarter in :28.3. Miki Shan N led the single-file field through the half in :58.4, shrugged off the attacking Tony Too Tall (Kyle Desroche) past three-quarters in 1:27.2, and cruised down the lane under wraps to a 2-1/4-length victory over Freemans Legacy. Two-time Borgata Series champion Hellabalou (Paul Langille) finished third in his Island debut.
Miki Shan N, a New Zealand-bred son of Always B Miki-Yankee Dream, is the defending Gold Cup and Saucer and Governor’s Plate champion and has never tasted defeat in Atlantic Canada. Owned by Kap Singh Racing Stable of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Stephen Klunowski of North York, Ont., Earl Hill Jr. of Ohsweken, Ont. and Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I., Miki Shan N is now three-for-13 this season. He raced mainly in the Opens at Northfield Park earlier this year before Wednesday's return to Atlantic Canada, where he won 10 times in 2025 and was the first horse to break 1:50 in the region with his 1:49.4 mile in the Premier's Cup. Wednesday's win brought his career totals to 23 wins and $363,634 in earnings from 74 starts. He paid $2.60 at the mutuels.
Paul Langille was the most frequent visitor to the winner’s circle on the 13-race card with five driving wins. He won the Canada Day Pace with his own Couldhavebeenalady ($8.80), who converted a two-hole trip into a 1:58.3 victory. Langille also won with a pair of Wayne Watson trainees in Wednesdays Child ($2.50) in the eighth race in 1:56.2 and More Than A Woman ($9.40) in the ninth in 1:54. Brookdale Johnny ($3.60) captured the $5,000 sixth-race conditioned pace in 1:55 for Langille and trainer Phil Sizer, and that pair also won the third race with Brookdale Jim ($3.90) in 1:57. Langille, coming off his first season with more than 100 wins, has 41 tallies in 2026 from 217 starts.
Brady Sweet had a driving triple on the afternoon. He won with Starshipzodiac ($5) in the first race in 1:56.4 for trainer Robert Williams, his trainee Run For The Money ($10.90) in the fourth in 1:59 and Tobins April Fool ($3.30) in 1:58.2 in the 10th for trainer Jeffery Wallace.
Before combining for the feature win, MacKay and MacPherson also won with Camluck Lady ($6.90) in 1:58.1 in Race 2.
The Prince County oval had a special spotlight on New Start Standardbreds Maritimes, an adoption and aftercare program dedicated to giving retired Standardbreds a safe and meaningful life after racing. Total handle for the Canada Day card was $139,360.
Live racing continues Thursday at 6 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown. The Saturday cards in July have a new post time of 5 p.m.
