Distaffers did battle in Friday’s second leg of the Pop Up Series at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and favourites failed to find their way to victory lane.

Darkrshadeofpale N parlayed a second-over trip into a first division score for the tandem of driver Bob McClure and trainer Katie Graham.

Sent off at odds of 3-1, the eight-year-old daughter of Changeover-Stella Franco got away fourth while Carsons Gouda muscled to the top.  She was parked through an opening quarter of :26.4 before getting down the pylons and then setting middle splits of :55.4 and 1:24.3.  So Frisky came first over around the final turn, with Darkrshadeofpale N tracking that one’s cover.

Darkrshadeofpale N stepped home in :28 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Cantstopthefeelin in 1:53.  Outlaw Imahotvixen rallied from far back in the late going to be third in the $12,500 affair.

Steve Mihalic of Oakville, Ont. owns the 25-time winner who improved her 2022 record to 4-1-4 from 19 tries with the score.  The win pushed her overall cash stash over $180,000.

Mia Culpa knocked off race favourite Tuggingoncredit in the second division for the team of driver Louis-Philippe Roy and trainer Jean Tourigny.

Roy got away fourth with the five-year-old daughter of Shadow Play-Mia Seelster while Tuggingoncredit motored to the lead and laid down fractions of :26.4, :55.1 and 1:23.1.  Mia Culpa started a first over rally in the third quarter, and she was bearing down on the leader going into the final quarter of the contest.  Mia Culpa used a :27.3 final frame to win by a half-length margin over Tuggingoncredit in 1:51.1.  Itty Bitty was third.

It was a lifetime best performance for Mia Culpa, who is owned by Quebec partners Roland Trudel and Andre Legare.  It was the first win of the season for the mare who has banked close to $200,000 to date.

Marzannk Hanover went a big trip to capture the final division, and she did so as a 21-1 upsetter for driver Colin Kelly and trainer Kyle Bossence.

The five-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Monte Carlo was fifth and parked at the quarter pole while Custard Lite led the group to that post in :27.3.  Kelly hustled his charge up on the outside in the backstretch, and she cleared to the top just before the half.  She sliced out middle splits of :55.3 and 1:23.4 before using a :28.3 closing panel to win by a pair of lengths in 1:52.2.  Race favourite Custard Lite was second, and Sporty Tori finished third.

Darryl Newbigging of Komoka, Ont. owns the distaffer who won for the third time this season and for the 14th time in her career.  The $6,250 payday lifted her lifetime earnings over $110,000.
