ATSS At Fredericton; 16 For Meridian Magic

Three-year-old pacing fillies battled in four divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes at Fredericton Raceway

Thursday afternoon. Three of the tilts were $7,700 “A” events and the other affair was a $2,500 “B” event.

Meridian Magic pushed her winning streak to 16-in-a-row thanks to a dominant score in her “A” division assignment. The daughter of Largo-Hot Asset, who hasn’t lost a race since a second-place finish at Truro Raceway on July 28, 2009, kicked home in a :29-second clip to win in 1:58 over Hey Jean and Woodmere Rose.

Sent off as the 1-5 favourite, Meridian Magic is now perfect in her first four starts of the season after racing 14 times as a rookie an assembling an 11-1-2 record. She stashed away more than $76,000 last year and he has added another $26,239 to the coffers this season for owner/breeder Barry Martin and co-owner James Gillis of Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Elm Grove Ella extended her win streak to two-in-a-row thanks to her 1:59.2 score in the opening “A” division for trainer/driver Clare MacDonald. The daughter of Largo-Elm Grove Starlite laid down fractions of :30.4, 1:00.3 and 1:29.4 before kicking home in :29.3 to defeat Woodmere Sandollar and Scootingforsuccess.

Ian Banks and Susan Karrel of Nova Scotia share ownership on the filly, who was unraced as a rookie, with Charles MacDonald of Prince Edward Island. The victory was her third tally, and the lion’s share of the purse bumped her bankroll to $7,281.

C H Yocoohno captured her “A” level assignment in 2:01.1 for trainer/driver Kenny Arsenault. The daughter of Mantorious-Ms Shania, who fended off Charlottes Coast and Putnams Dough Girl, led through fractions of :30.1, 1:01.3 and 1:31.2 before hammering home I n:29.4 to seal the deal.

William Hogg of Charlottetown and John Melanson of Stanley Bridge, PEI share ownership on the two-time winner, who has stashed away more than $39,000 to date.

In the lone $2,500 “B” division, Coco Rose got into the win column for the first time this season when she toured the oval in a career-best clocking of 2:02.2 to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Grey Gust. Third prize went to Ammon Seana.

Bred, trained and driven by Jeff Lilley, who also co-owns with Rebecca Mae Horton of Avonport, Nova Scotia. She’s a two-time winner in 18 career assignments and she’s banked just over $4,000 to date.
