Trainer Ira Fisher, who previously conditioned horses owned by Ely Iversen, has announced that he is looking to open his own public stable
.
Fisher started out working with the horses in Nova Scotia after his father, Ira Fisher Sr., purchased a racehorse. He then moved to Toronto before heading to the United States for an 11-year stint. After working for the likes of Brett Pelling and Trond Smedshammer, Fisher decided to head home to work with Anders Wolden, one of his co-workers at Smedshammer's. Wolden previously trained for Iversen, but upon his departure last September, Fisher took over the stable. He has since conditioned 39 winners earning over $714,000 in purses.
Going forward Fisher says he would like to start a public stable and see what opportunites come his way.
"It was time for a change," said Fisher. "I appreciate the chance Ely gave me and everything, but hopefully someone will give me another one."
Currently, the 41-year-old resident of Guelph trains a three-year-old Sir Luck filly Casmir Iwilliwill, who is getting ready to qualify, and the five-year-old Angus Hall pacing mare Singyourheartout - both for his father. Fisher is located just off Maltby Road, but says he plans on moving to a training centre upon the arrival of any new pupils.
