Baron Racing Stable and Richard Lombardo’s Dancin Yankee broke the track record for aged pacing stallions Monday with a 1:50.3 win in the $17,000 Open Pace at Harrington Raceway.
The six-year-old Yankee Cruiser stallion left alertly from post six for driver Ross Wolfenden and found an early seat in third behind pacesetter Rock On Moe and pocket sitter Teresa’s Beach. Rock On Moe marched to the opening quarter in :27.3, half-mile in :56.2 while Dancin Yankee mounted his attack first-over and started to edge clear of Rock On Moe to the three-quarters station in 1:23.1. Wolfenden was just a passenger in the stretch as Dancin Yankee drew clear by open lengths in the stretch. Rock On Moe held on for second over Teresas Beach. Dancin Yankee is trained by Josh Green.
The win established a new record for aged pacing stallions, formerly held by Keystone Rodeo (1:51) in 2006 - one of the longest standing records at Harrington. Dancin Yankee has been battling with some of the sport’s top free-for-all pacers in recent weeks in the Molson Pace at Western Fair and George Morton Levy Memorial at Yonkers Raceway.
