NY Senate Approves Electronic Table Games At Racinos

The New York Senate approved a dramatic move last week, allowing electronic versions of table games at the state’s seven racinos and expanding their hours of operation, including 24-hour operation on some days, based on number of machines.

Racinos with fewer than 1,575 machines can operate up to 128 hours a week. Those with more than 1,575 can operate 140 hours, with the tracks free to set their schedules individually.

The Senate vote was a landslide, 54-8. So what happens next? Well, for one thing, Assembly approval, starting with the Assembly Codes Committee. Its chairman, Rep. Joseph Lentol, a Brooklyn Democrat, said, “It seems like a pretty complicated bill. It seems like it might be kind of difficult to consider this year. I think it could affect labour contracts. Our counsel hasn’t had a chance to look at it yet.”

The committee meets again tomorrow and will also meet June 16. The current legislative session is scheduled to close June 22.
