Driver Scott Young put his broadcast schooling to good use as Grand River Raceway’s newest guest announcer during a jam-packed Fun & Frivolity Friday Night.
Young made his race calling debut in race four. The field of young trotters was no threat to Young, who maintained the call even as the first-place finisher, Peppermill made a break at the wire. Runner-up Its What I Do was second-placed-first.
The Guelph, Ont. resident is a career winner of 136 races and $1.1 million. He’s already on queue to double his numbers from last year, with 59 wins thus far in 2012. He’s currently ranked fifth in the Hanover Raceway dash standings, and has broken into the top ten for the first time at Grand River Raceway.
The next guest announcer on From Bike To Mic will be announced on Wednesday.
The track also crowned the winners in its Horse Name Costume Game. Participants fashioned costumes in the likeness of one of the horses racing on Friday’s card.
The winners were determined by judges Bob McClure, Anthony Haughan, and Grand River Raceway Simulcast Manager Yvon Giguere.

Racing continues Monday at 7:05 p.m. when the track features nine divisions of three-year-old trotting colts in the Grassroots Series of the Ontario Sires Stakes. To celebrate Canada Day, fans will receive a free poster of San Pail with the purchase of a program.
