Five-year-old pacer Major Dundee now boasts victories in three provinces across the country after capturing the top pacing feature at Northside Downs in North Sydney, N.S. on Saturday afternoon.

The son of Art Major, who began his career racing on the Manitoba Fair Circuit before heading to Ontario, was claimed on May 29 for $6,000 at Western Fair Raceway and moved to Nova Scotia for new owners Wayne Hardy of Sydney and Randy Getto of New Waterford.

Following a runner-up finish in the top class at Inverness Raceway last Sunday, Major Dundee converted off a pocket trip this afternoon and held off the hard-closing Sterling Seelster by a neck for the 2:01.4 victory over the track rated three seconds off. Pacesetter Presidential Rage finished one length behind in third.

Randy Getto drove the race favourite, who paid $5.50 to win, for trainer Dana Getto.

Major Dundee has won 15 of his 67 races lifetime while banking $62,946 in purses.

Earlier on the card, 19-year-old Colin Kelly celebrated his first driving win aboard Andrew Campbell's Mr Gilmour ($18). Kelly sent the early pocket-sitter to the lead after the half-mile mark en route to the 2:04.2 triumph. Mr Gilmour turned back eventual third-place finisher Giselles Big B and held off Carters Star in the stretch by half a length.

Another rookie driver, 23-year-old Evan Wilson, followed up his maiden-breaking win last weekend with another triumph on Saturday as his trainee Skipjack ($5) held on by a neck over Neil N Lady in 2:05.3. Skipjack is back in to go at Northside on Canada Day.
