Two-year-olds continued to step out at Woodbine Mohawk Park with three races carded for rookies on Tuesday night (June 27).
The fastest mile of the two-year-old events belonged to Myretirementdream, who clocked a 1:57.2 effort in a trotting event for colts and geldings. Driver Trevor Henry floated the Eli Wagler trainee off the wings to sit fourth to a :28.3 first quarter before brushing the colt to the lead heading to a :58.2 half. Myretirementdream continued on a loose lead while chased by Alexander from the pocket and Soar Higher from first over moving to three-quarters in 1:28.3. Myretirementdream rolled for home on a 4-1/2-length lead that shrunk to 2-3/4 at the finish with Soar Higher taking second. Alexander finished third, another seven lengths behind, with LMC Mr Squishy closing for fourth.
Myretirementdream, a son of Il Sogno Dream, is a homebred for Eli Wagler. He paid $4.30 to win.
After an inquiry, Manhawk was elevated to first in the $16,000 events for pacing colts and geldings. The son of Stag Party raced fourth while favourite Pirates Shadow strolled on the lead through a clip of :29.4, 1:00.2 and 1:29.4 before facing challengers from the backfield. Captain Fear Not pushed his way out of the pocket as Manhawk came rolling first over, and the pair slid by Pirates Shadow in the final eighth of a mile. But because Captain Fear Not interfered with Manhawk’s path into the stretch, the judges disqualified him to second and elevated Manhawk, beaten 1-1/2 lengths, to first in a 1:58.2 mile. Supplemental Fee rallied for third and Geishas Treasure took fourth.
Scott McEneny trains Manhawk for owner M And L of Delaware LLC. The $22,000 yearling paid $10.80 when winning on debut.
Tequila Sunset opened the card with a coast-to-coast win in a $16,000 event for trotting fillies in 2:04.1. Bob McClure sent the Blake MacIntosh pupil to the lead and set a tempo of :31.3, 1:03 and 1:34.4 to ready for the final-quarter sprint. Sonar Seelster popped pocket and dug into the leader, but Tequila Sunset held a half-length advantage to the finish with Tactical Princess third and Summer Crush fourth.
Tim Klemencic and Hurts So Good Stable owns Tequila Sunset, a $120,000 yearling and daughter of Muscle Mass. She paid $5.80 to win on debut.
