"It Was A Huge Success"

A rare spectacle occurred Sunday, June 24 in St-Hugues when a field of five lined up behind the starting gate and contested a pacing-under-saddle event over the rural Quebec bullring.

"It was a huge success, as we had the biggest crowd of the day on the side of the track to watch the race," Anne-Marie Demers, who rode Gadget, told Trot Insider.

After everyone settled and got away in good order, the first quarter flashed up in a relatively-solid thirty seconds. Since the contest was not a charted affair, it was tough to figure out what exactly transpired through the next three quarters of the race.

What was certain, however, is that the race was won by Lombo Skyrider and rider Odile Letellier in a mile time of 2.06, which produced "a tight, one-length finish," according to Demers, who finished second with Gadget.

The order of finish from the race appears below.

1 - Lombo Skyrider A - Odile Letellier
2 - Gadget - Anne-Marie Demers
3 - Windleaves Dreamer - Sophie Desroches
4 - Some Hearts - Karine Surprenant
5 - Zorgwijk Intensify - Jean-Philippe Mercier

"We will have some more races under saddle in other fair events over the summer, like St-Aimé Des Lacs," Demers said.
