The track record at Charlottetown Driving Park appears to be in serious jeopardy after two speedy Gold Cup and Saucer trials on Saturday, Aug. 9 have set the stage for one explosive final this Saturday, Aug. 16.

In the first Gold Cup and Saucer Trial, Its Major Major A lived up to his heavy billing with a decisive 1:50.3 score for driver James MacDonald and trainer Rene Bourassa. The pacer sailed home to win by 5-1/4 lengths over Virgo (Billy Davis Jr.), followed by Legion Seelster (Jody Jamieson) and Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes).

East Coast perfection continued for Miki Shan N as the stallion tied the 1:50.1 all-time track record in the second Gold Cup and Saucer Trial for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Chris MacKay while winning his sixth straight race. Poseidon Seelster (James MacDonald) was second with Arbitrage Hanover (Davis) third and Fortify (Marc Campbell) fourth.

Miki Shan N's mile tied him with Sintra, YS Lotus and Bee Two Bee as the fastest pacers ever in Atlantic Canada.

The post position draw for Saturday’s $100,000 Gold Cup and Saucer, presented by Atlantic Lottery, takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 12. Who do you like in the 2025 Gold Cup and Saucer? Have your say in the current Standardbred Canada web poll.
