Pacing the fastest local mile in recent memory, Woodmere Ideal Art made a statement with his emphatic and dominant victory in the top class at Exhibition Park Raceway on Saturday (June 26).
With a red-hot Todd Trites at the controls, Woodmere Ideal Art made every call a winning one in the $1,600 Winners Over feature. Sent to the front from post four, Woodmere Ideal Art sculpted fractions of :28.2, 57.1, 1:26.3 before tacking on a :28.3 closer to trip the timer in 1:55.1 — just two-fifths of a second off his lifetime mark. Favoured Little Manny (Stephen Trites) was more than five lengths back in second with Blood Money (Dr. Mitch Downey) inheriting sole possession of third after finishing in a dead heat with a third-placed-fifth Ultimatelyhandsome.
A 23-time career winner with a 3-4-0 record from seven seasonal starts, Woodmere Ideal Art (Articulator - Very Ideal Hanover) is owned by Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, N.B. and trained by Sifroi Melanson.
Todd Trites only sent one betting favourite postward on the afternoon, so his 3-3-0 summary from those six races certainly warrants mention. Handle for the six-race card was $3,247.
