On Friday, June 26, the Nova Scotia Government announced the make up of the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission’s new Board, which will overseas live racing operations at Truro Raceway.
The five member Board will include Bruce Kennedy, who is a part owner of Pepsi North America Cup winner Wakizashi Hanover, and Stu Rath, who was part of Somebeachsomewhere’s ownership group when the great pacer was campaigned.
"I am very happy that we have a new Board with experienced business and agricultural leaders who can grow the success of events, generate more income to reinvest in the facility and ensure the exhibition is on a stable path going forward," Agriculture Minister Keith Colwell was quoted as saying via release, which appears below.
"They are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work on building a bright future for this important provincial institution."
Provincial Exhibition Commission Names New Board
The Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission has a new board focused on accountability and long-term sustainability for the facility.
The new board members were announced today, June 26, by Agriculture Minister Keith Colwell.
"I am very happy that we have a new board with experienced business and agricultural leaders who can grow the success of events, generate more income to reinvest in the facility and ensure the exhibition is on a stable path going forward," said Mr. Colwell. "They are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work on building a bright future for this important provincial institution."
Government passed legislation in the spring sitting of the House of Assembly to create a new board structure and clarify the commission's corporate objectives to respond to a review by KPMG.
The members are:
• Stuart Rath, business representative, chair, Truro
• Laurie Jennings, business representative, Masstown
• Cameron MacEachen, business representative, Valley, Colchester Co.
• Donna Langille, agricultural community representative, Tatamagouche
• Bruce Kennedy, harness racing representative, Bible Hill
A representative from the Department of Agriculture will also be named to the board.
An interim board has run the commission during the transition and Mr. Colwell thanked them for their work.
"I appreciate the work done by the interim board to start putting the house in order at the commission. Their time has been volunteered and I cannot thank them enough for the dedication they have shown."
