The draw is complete and the field set for the $9,000 final of the Cecil Ladner Memorial Pacing Series Saturday night at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park
. Post time for the 13 dash event is 7 p.m. sharp with the final being called to post at 10:05 p.m. The Bell-Aliant Race Day show will carry the action world-wide beginning at 6:45 p.m. (AST).
Pans O Silver, Outlawpositivcharg and St Pete Star have been listed as the morning line favourites by race secretary Gerard Smith and race analyst Les MacIsaac. Pans O Silver, who finished third in the elimination for driver Brodie MacPhee, has drawn the rail for trainer and owner Alex MacPhee. The race is setting up with some wicked gate speed as Outlawpositivcharg and trainer-driver Terry Gallant starts from Post 6 and St Pete Star, who will be driven by Marc Campbell for conditioner Danny Romo, gets Post 2.
MacIsaac explains that Outlawpositivcharg could be controlling the tempo early. “The way he can get off the gate it's hard to imagine any of these denying him the front if he wants it, and there's a pretty good chance he does. When Terry gets him there a breather anywhere in the mile will make him tough to catch,” said MacIsaac. The race analyst says that St Pete Star is on a roll and racing tough while Pans O Silver, with rail control, is a major danger too.
The finalists also include Thisisyournight (PP6), who was a strong second in the elimination for new owner David MacDonald of Halifax, Mighty And Strong (PP7), owned by the Patrick Morris Stable of Charlottetown, Hilo (PP8) gets the services of Danny Romo while McHales Gravy (PP4) and BJ Cruiser leave (PP5) from the middle of the pack.
The $3,400 consolation is set for Race 10 with San Marco Hanover, trained by Tom Weatherbie, landing on the pylons. Marc Campbell will catch drive for owner Ryan Ellis of Brookfield, NS.
Life Savior, owned by Kevin MacMillan of O’Leary, has secured the services of driver Mike Stevenson. The five-year-old by Life Sign registered a 1:56.4 mile with a :28.1 closer in his last start. The morning line favourite takes on Western Deadline, Notacent Tobemade, CL Eighty and Blue Star Outlaw.
The Open trotters are also on the card. Dusty Lane Shelby has won her last two starts. Owned by former Gold Cup ambassador Jamie Lynne Tierney of Cornwall and trained by brother Mitchell, the track record holder leaves from Post 3 for young driver Corey MacPherson. Stonehousepleasure and Flashy Image are also top contenders.
