Trot Insider has spoken with Peter Heffering of the Auckland Reactor Stable in regard to the development that the much-hyped six-year-old may be heading back
Down Under.
Heffering explained that there has been Down Under interest in Mach Three horse, and since Auckland Reactor has not taken to the heat on America's Northeastern seaboard Heffering said that offers are being considered at this point.
"It's a possibility," Heffering said, in regard to whether or not 'The Reactor' will be heading back Down Under, "but nothing is definite right now."
Heffering told Trot Insider that "there is a possibility that something could happen within the next 10 days to two weeks."
When asked if Auckland Reactor's connections are contemplating offers because of the horse's lacklustre North American starts or simply because it is too good an opportunity to let go by, Heffering said "it's a combination of the two.
"It's just that he hasn't acclimated well since going to New Jersey. The heat, humidity and everything has just gotten to him. He hasn't been eating."
Since coming to North America, Auckland Reactor has raced in three pari-mutuel races and has yet to hit the board. The horse cashed a cheque on May 30 at Chester Racetrack during an Open Pace in which he finished fourth in 1:50.1 after cutting the fractions (:26.3, :54.1, 1:21.3). He took a front-end trip in a conditioned event at Chester on June 13, but backed through the field late and paced his mile in 1:52.
Heffering explained to Trot Insider that there is "definite interest for him from Down Under for the upcoming breeding season."
When asked if the horse will be shut down until the hot and muggy summer weather subsides and then contest later stakes, Heffering said "that has been discussed and we haven't ruled anything out at this point, but he's not going to be racing in July or August, regardless."
PLEASE say it isn't so ---
PLEASE say it isn't so --- I really wanted to see Auckland Reactor race here in Ontario but if it's in his best interest then maybe they should send him home. I loved watching him race here in NA and had already made plans to go watch him when he came to Ontario.
