Quick N Slick made a bold move in sweeping past the leaders at the three-quarter pole to win the featured Friday night Open Trot at Scioto Downs.

Hall of Famer Chip Noble was in the sulky for owner Frances Schloss and trainer Scott Mogan. The mile was timed in 1:57.2. Despite drawing post seven in the 10-horse field, Quick N Slick was sent off as the 3-2 favourite.

CJs Super Secret got out of the gate fastest and was on top at the quarter in :28.3, then yielded to Saracuda and driver Sandy Beatty. Meanwhile, Quick N Slick was in next-to-last as Noble reserved his trotter’s high burst of speed.

As the field went down the backstretch in the third quarter, Noble fired up Quick N Slick and the four-year-old gelded son of Pegasus Spur responded by moving from ninth to second with a three-wide move.

Quick N Slick sailed past the tiring Saracuda and had a four-length lead entering the stretch. Then Noble let him loaf through the final part of the race to win by a measured length. CJs Super Secret was second while the 29-1 longshot Altesse rallied to get third.

The win was the fourth in eight starts for Quick N Slick and he pushed his earnings to $28,840 in 2012.

Keene Supreme was an upset winner in the co-featured Open Pace for fillies and mares. Driver Jack Daily gave her a perfect trip behind the pacesetting Tu Sei Bella and edged her out in the homestretch to score by a neck over the pacesetter in 1:54.1. Kay Low finished third and favoured Kenna Lyn finished last.

Keene Supreme paid $41 to win. The five-year-old mare is owned by her breeders William and Elizabeth Keene in partnership with Doug Bartley. It was her third win in 19 starts this season.
