Guelph native Jack Waples reached a career milestone on Wednesday night. After a long 2010 season where he could only must runner-up finishes, Waples finally secured his first driving victory
.
Waples, when interviewed by Hanover Raceway's Fred Wallace had nothing but good things to see about Maui Wind, the Joe Ruffolo-trained claiming trotter that helped him to his win. "It's nice to get the monkey of my back finally," added Waples in the winner's circle after the race.
Reinsman Bob McClure of Orangeville, Ontario had a career night, tripping the wire first a remarkable four times in his eight drives, including three in a row to close out the Pick 4. McClure is enjoying a breakthough season at Hanover Raceway as he nears his season's total of 11 wins from a year ago. With three months left in the season, it will be interesting to see if the young driver can keep up this pace.
Lastly, Ryan Holliday attempted to keep pace with the other top drivers at Hanover Raceway, winning with Bridge Jumper in the night's second contest. A twenty-four year old Mount Forest native, Holliday now brings his season total at Hanover up to six in five nights.
Hanover Raceway is well into its summer meet, with the first Wednesday night card taking place on Wednesday, June 1. After five race nights, the driver's standings look remarkably different than in years past with some young drivers sitting near the top, formerly unfamiliar territory. Wednesday night was a perfect example of why there seems to be a changing of the guard at Hanover Raceway.
