Stop Action ($3.60) found plenty of takers down the stretch in Buffalo Raceway's $14,400 conditioned pace on Sunday afternoon (June 19) but the five-year-old gelding had enough left to beat a stubborn Weekend Atnannies by a head in 1:54.4 over the fast track.
The win for Stop Action was his seventh on the season in 19 starts but his first after four consecutive third-place finishes.
Grabbing the advantage early, Stop Action (Kevin Cummings) was able to notch fractions of :28, :57.2 and 1:26.2 through the first three panels but things were about to get dicey. Stop Action was all out late and able to withstand the attack down the passing lane from Weekend Atnannies (Jim Morrill Jr.) and My Money Honey (Kyle Cummings), who made a bid on the outside.
Owned by Super Mile LLC and trained by Angelo Nappo, Stop Action (Somebeachsomehwere-The Show Returns) has now earned $54,381 in 2022 and $131,375 lifetime.
In the $12,400 conditioned pace, Yankee On The Move ($8.60) avoided early trouble then used a first-over trip after that to beat Illbewatchingu by a length in 1:56.1.
With Tullow N jumping it off around the first turn, driver Kyle Cummings had to swing Yankee On The Move wide around the breaking horse and finally settled into the fourth spot. Approaching the half, Yankee On The Move started his first-over grind and eventually grabbed the lead turning for home. Illbewatchingu (Drew Monti) and the pacesetting Rearview Blue Chip (Morrill Jr.) made late attempts but came up well short in those efforts.
Conditioned by James Clouser Jr. and owned by William Emmons, the five-year-old gelded Yankee On The Move (Yankee Skyscrapper-Fox Valley Raquel) earned his sixth victory from 21 starts this year. The win upped his seasonal earnings to $32,046 and lifetime bankroll to $101,730.
Morrill Jr. finished the afternoon with three victories while Kevin Cummings had a pair. Trainer Shawn McDonough had three wins and Nappo two.
Racing will resume on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. with a 10-race card. The New York Sire Stakes return with the two-year-old filly pacers to clash in a pair of $54,000 (approx.) events.
