Sent off a 9-1 long shot, Trick Man was parked the opening panel by 9-10 favourite Here We Go Again, who settled into the pocket to await the stretch drive. But Trick Man responded to the urging of trainer-driver Ray Paver and downed Here We Go Again by half a length, knocking a full second from his lifetime mark. Dark Lightning raced well first over for third.
Ron Brechler owns Trick Man, a four-year-old son of Mantacular-Vickis Trick, who has won 12 of 28 career starts and $236,453.
In Saturday’s companion feature, the $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot, Caviar Forthe Lady, the 3-2 favourite, moved smartly first over for Dan Charlino and triumphed in 1:55.2, two and three-quarter lengths better than Toms OK Lady, while early leader Im Justa Lady saved show.
Marty Wollam trains Caviar Forthe Lady, a five-year-old daughter of SJs Caviar-Croupier Lady, who now boasts $465,906 in career earnings, for Acadia Farms.
Dave Palone drove four winners and Eric Ledford three on the 13-race card.
Monday’s card features a $5,000-guaranteed pool for the Pick 4, which spans races 11-14. The Meadows, in association with the United States Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program, is offering such Pick 4 pool guarantees each Monday and Tuesday in June.
