Whoomp held firm down the stretch to take the $131,250 second leg of the Indiana Sire Stakes (INSS) for three-year-old pacing fillies at Hoosier Park on Saturday, June 13.

Whoomp was quickest off the gate for John De Long from post three, taking command of the seven-horse field to the quarter in :27.4. She held sway through the halfway mark in :56.4 with Klorox Queen (Trace Tetrick) on her back in second followed by Treacherous Woman (Kyle Wilfong) and Somemore Blue (Marcus Miller). Favourite Somemore Blue transitioned to the outside to advance into the final turn.

Whoomp held strong to three-quarters in 1:24.4 with Somemore Blue sliding into third on the outside. Upon arrival to the stretch, Somemore Blue pushed up to the leader’s wheel, and the top two began to separate from the rest of the field. They both dashed home with Somemore Blue making marginal gains, but Whoomp reached the line three-quarters of a length clear in 1:50.4. Somemore Blue settled for second, while Klorox Queen was third.

The Roger Welch-trained Whoomp is two-for-two this season, having also scored in the INSS first leg, and has won six straight starts. The streak includes victories in her INSS Super Final and the Kentuckiana Stallion Management at two. The daughter of Rockin Image-Nightcap is owned by William De Long, Patrick De Long and Jesse De Long. She is now 10-for-15 lifetime with $584,231 in earnings. The win price was $3.80.

After five straight finishes in the triactor without a victory, Ponda Jet returned to winning ways with a front-end score in the $30,556 Open Handicap Trot.

Four trotters put up a bid for the early lead, but Ponda Jet claimed the front at the quarter in :26.2 with Drink Up Drink Up (Brandon Bates) at his heels. Ponda Jet motored along the backstretch to the halfway point in :55.3 for Kyle Wilfong, leaving the field unchanged. The favoured leader showed no signs of slowing down at the three-quarters in 1:25, and Ponda Jet kept his foot to the floor down the lane to prevail by three-quarters of a length in 1:53. Finite (Trace Tetrick) rallied for second, while Drink Up Drink Up ended up in third.

Ponda Jet is trained by Jay Hochstetler for owners Connie Hochsteler, Robert Buddig and Allen Schwartz. The six-year-old son of Dover Dan-Pondas Lucky Lady dominated the top trotting class at Hoosier last season, winning 15 Opens. He has racked up 37 career victories and $1,006,518 in earnings from 84 career outings. He paid $3.20 to win.

Tuesday-night cards return for the 2026 season at Hoosier Park beginning on June 16. The 13-race card will feature a $10,000 guaranteed Late Pick 4 and a $10,000 guaranteed Late Hoosier High 5, done in partnership with the USTA’s Strategic Wagering Program. First post is set for 5:30 p.m.
