Scioto Holds Konesky, Brandt Finals

No Approval Needed rode the pocket to victory in the John Konesky Trot final, and Supreme Dance cut the mile to win the Richard Brandt Trot final as Scioto Downs held the $41,667 events for Ohio-sired fillies and mares five years old and younger on Thursday, June 11.

The Konesky, for non-winners of one as of May 8, went to No Approval Needed and Brett Miller in 1:55.2. The Uncle Peter-Sealedwithapproval filly sat behind Cast No Stones (Trevor Smith), who set the fractions of :27.3, :58.3 and 1:26.3 after leaving from post eight. No Approval Needed then forged past the pacesetter with a  :28.3 last quarter to capture her third win in five starts so far this season, beating Cast No Stones by a length. Flirtin Tomi (Marvin Luna) completed the triactor.

No Approval Needed has eight wins in 16 lifetime starts and $77,546 in earnings. Ryan Stahl trains the filly and shares ownership with Stephen Reis and Matt Lambert. The win price was $2.60.

Supreme Dance and Sam Widger upset at 12-1 in the Brandt, for non-winners of two as of May 8. After setting fractions of :27.2, :57.4 and 1:26.1, Supreme Dance held off Capturethephoto (Austin Hanners), who was parked the entire mile, by three-quarters of a length in 1:56. Rose Run Bridget (Tyler Smith) finished third. 

Supreme Dance is two-for-six this year for trainer Rosy Weaver, who co-owns the sophomore with Scott Davis. The Full Count-Supreme Day filly now has 13 wins in 25 lifetime starts and $127,955 in earnings. The 12-1 shot paid $27 to win

Virgil Morgan Jr. won three of the evening's 14 races as Luke Hanners drove Dublins Dragonfly ($8.80), Captain Wonderful ($8.20) and Down Two Party ($11.20) to victory for the trainer. Morgan, who recently reached 8,000 career wins, holds a commanding lead in the Scioto standings with 49 tallies, 27 more than Ron Burke in second. He is aiming for his 32nd straight training title at the track.

Racing continues at Scioto on Friday with a 15-race card starting at 5:25 p.m. The Steve McCoy Pace and Skip Hoovler Pace counterparts to Thursday's trots will be held as the fourth and ninth races, respectively. There will then be 16 races on Saturday night’s card, including two $75,000 USD divisions of the Ohio Sires Stakes for three-year-old colt trotters and the Jerry Knappenberger Pace for non-winners-of-one colt pacers.
