In what has become an annual event at Cal-Expo, the first legs of the TVG Amateur Driving Series will kick off Saturday, May 8
.
Sixteen horses (two divisions) have been entered to contest the event, which is comprised of two legs and a final. The estimated purse of the final for these $4,000 claimers is over $8,000.
TVG has been a strong supporter of amateur racing in California since such events were resurrected about five years ago. Avid amateur driver, California Horsemen’s Association President, and Hollywood Producer Alan Kirschenbaum continues to believe in amateur driving as a promotional vehicle and ownership attraction for standardbred racing.
"Amateur racing remains unique to harness racing, and the more often it is presented, the more likely it is that owners, fans, and even gamblers will get the itch to join in the fun," Kirshenbaum explained. "My first exposure to racing was as a fan and bettor, and I fantasized about being out there driving, and through amateur racing, I was able to fulfill those dreams."
