Gulotta: 'Big M' Slots A Savior For Taxpayers

In an editorial blog entry on nj.com, horse owner and humanitarian Mike Gulotta explains why the installation of slot machines at the Meadowlands Racetrack would save the taxpayers of New Jersey, and why the Atlantic City Casino operators' stance against such implementation is

contradictory.

"Clearly, New Jersey as a whole would benefit greatly by locating one-arm bandits within a 20-mile radius of the Meadowlands and 15 million people," Gulotta wrote. "New Jersey residents who travel to New York and Pennsylvania for their gaming pleasure would no longer do so."

Gulotta also wrote: "The Atlantic City casino companies have consistently looked out for their own best interests by building casinos or proposing to build them right on New Jersey’s borders. For example, Harrah’s built its Chester racino just 70 miles from Atlantic City. Is it fair for them to diversify their revenue sources, rip gaming and tax revenues out of New Jersey and then cry the sky is falling when slots are proposed at the Meadowlands? While that may make sense to them and their shareholders, it is patently unfair to New Jersey’s taxpayers."
