Her ascent began with the move into the care of Pompano's perennial top conditioner Dan Hennessey back on March 29 and on Tuesday’s program pacing mare Glam Cam emphatically announced her arrival
as the new queen of the South Florida pacing mares.
In the $14,000 assignment at Pompano Park, Glam Cam sat last in the field of seven as Bryans Ideal with Dan Clements in the bike laid down the speed in :26.3, :55.2 and 1:24 while putting away the first over bid of Devachan in rein to Gaston Lareau. In the stretch, the front stepping Bryans Ideal was able to hold off the bids of following rivals Im Just Special and Nillabomb, however, the last quarter rush out widest of all by Glam Cam resulted in a driving away win in a life's record clocking of 1:52.3.
Arthur Mergenhagen of Williston, FL made a private purchase in March of Glam Cam from her breeder and developer, Rod Allen. Since moving into the Dan Hennessey barn, the five-year-old Camotion-CR Charisma mare has amassed an outstanding record of seven wins and a pair of runner-up finishes.
The other field-circling winner on the Tuesday evening program was Elm Grove Ella in an $8,000 purse conditioned test for fillies and mares. The four-year-old daughter of Largo-Elm Grove Starlite with Richie Simard at the reins sat last in the field of seven until the top of the stretch and then swung out widest to stop the clock in 1:54.2 over Pinnacle Portia and Gold Star Glitter.
Elm Grove Ella, a graduate of the Atlantic Sires Stakes program originally developed by Clare MacDonald at Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia, is trained by Eric Beach for Trifecta 246 Corporation, Kim Beach, Sue Knapp and Gerry Knapp of Michigan.
With the turn of the calendar page into June, Pompano's live racing schedule is moving to three nights per week. Post time remains at 7:05 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in June. Monday cards will be dropped for the final month of the meet in July.
