On Wednesday, May 30, Tim Tetrick became the youngest driver in history to win 7,000 harness races when he guided Trading Places to victory in Harrah’s Philadelphia's second race of the afternoon
.
The 30-year-old Tetrick thus supplanted Walter Case Jr. as the youngest driver to reach the milestone. Case was 35 when he accomplished the feat.
Tetrick, a native of Illinois who now lives in southern New Jersey, already holds the records for youngest driver to wins No. 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 and 6,000. He also was the youngest to reach $100 million in career purses.
Entering Wednesday, Tetrick needed one win to reach 7,000. He is the leading driver in North America this season, with 286 victories, as well as No. 1 in purses, with $3.88 million.
Tetrick has led the sport in earnings each of the past five years and set the record for wins in a season when he was victorious 1,189 times in 2007.
He was voted Driver of the Year by the U.S. Harness Writers’ Association in 2007 and 2008 and was Harness Tracks of America’s Driver of the Year in 2007, 2008 and 2010.
