The Quebec Jockey Club (QJC) announced on Thursday, May 29 that it has cancelled the 2025 Prix d'Été that was scheduled for Aug. 17 at Hippodrome 3R.
The QJC made the announcement through a Hippodrome 3R social media platform late Thursday afternoon, citing financial and political factors as the reasons for the cancellation of the $200,000 stakes event and accompanying $50,000 consolation.
"It is with great regret that the Quebec Jockey Club has come to the conclusion that it must cancel the Prix d'Été," said a translated QJC statement. "Following numerous discussions and exchanges with the Board of Directors and the race office, this decision was the most prudent and responsible.
"The Prix d'Été had been announced for the end of 2024 before experiencing various financial and political factors that are hampering the event. The racetrack experienced a significant tax increase from the City of Trois-Rivières at the end of January. Furthermore, Canadian betting is down across the country, and Quebec is no exception. The instability with our southern neighbours makes border crossings much more complex.
"The QJC is closely monitoring betting trends to make the best decisions in the future. We will keep you informed of further developments throughout the summer."
The Grand Circuit stakes race was renewed last year after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and eligibility was expanded for the 2025 edition from four-year-old pacers to all older pacers.
