Longtime harness racing industry participants Will and Claire Fleming are not only completing a 7,650-kilometre cross-country bike tour, they will complete it earlier than expected.

The pair will arrive in St. John’s, Newfoundland during the afternoon of May 27, an entire day earlier than predicted.

To signify the end of their tour, Will and Claire will dip their bicycle wheels into the Atlantic Ocean.

The two began their tour on April 13 in Vancouver, B.C. with a goal of raising $7,650 to reflect the amount of kilometres they would travel. As of May 26 they have raised over $27,000, a number neither of them thought possible.

The money collected will go entirely to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program, which provides financial assistance to help kids participate in organized sports.

Will, 20, and Claire, 17, have been accompanied by their mother, Jennifer, who operates base camp from the family RV. All three are from Londesborough, Ont., a village of 186 people near Clinton, Ont. Will is a Standardbred racehorse owner and Claire has also spent time in the harness racing industry, working as the official timer at Clinton Raceway under her father, Ian.

The Fleming family would like to thank all of those who graciously donated, and for all the hospitality they were shown on their journey.
