In one of three $18,000 top classes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday evening (May 25), Southwind Coors scored in a new lifetime mark, the fastest time of the three classes.
Southwind Coors (James MacDonald) sat fourth through the quarter in :27.3 and half in :56.2 before making a first-over charge. MacDonald and Southwind Coors took over at the three-quarters in 1:25.1, still in the outer flow. Down the stretch, the pair opened up to win by an astonishing 9-1/2 lengths in 1:53. The Great Emotion (Louis-Philippe Roy) was second and Tactical Planner (Tyler Jones) finished third.
A three-year-old gelded son of Walner, Southwind Coors is trained by Matthew Bax for the partnership of Bax Stable, Glengate Farms, David Hudson and Craig Wilson. It was his second career win.
Chocolate Parfait posted the second fastest time, a new career mark for the mare.
Chocolate Parfait and Bob McClure rode the pocket trip behind Proud To Be Lindy (Chris Christoforou) through the quarter in :28 and half in :58.1 before making a move on the outside. The pair was still on the outside as they passed the three-quarters in 1:27.1. Around the final turn, they had taken over and sailed away to win by three lengths in 1:54.4. Proud To Be Lindy was second and Mvn (Sylvain Filion) finished third.
Chocolate Parfait is a four-year-old daughter of Muscle Mass, trained by co-owner Clark Beelby for owner Coyote Wynd Farms. Unraced as a freshman, Chocolate Parfait posted a record of 4-2-0 in eight starts in her sophomore campaign.
