The fastest mile from the session of qualifiers on Saturday, Jan. 3 at Woodbine Mohawk Park came courtesy one of the circuit's newest faces.
Jordy N, a nine-year-old son of Bettors Delight, hadn't seen action since the start of October in Australia. But his effort on Saturday morning gave reason to believe he'll be in action again soon and certainly worth consideration as a contender.
Driver J.R. Plante sat fourth with Jordy N in his North American debut while Soaring Now (Billy Davis, Jr.) cut fractions of :29, :57.4 and 1:27. Turning for home, Soaring Now faced a stiff challenge from pocket-sitting Nazare (Brady Galliers) with Powertrain (James MacDonald) tipping off that one's helmet, but Plante unleashed Jordy N in the four path and the veteran powered past his rivals for the 1:57.2 decision over the track listed as good. Powertrain finished a length back in second with Nazare edging out Soaring Now for the show spot.
Jordy N came to Canada with nine career victories and 45 top-three finishes from 115 starts with $136,180 in purses earnings. The son of Bettors Delight - Flyover is now trained by Jacques Dupont for owner Ecurie CSL of Sorel-Tracy, Que.
