For the second time in two weeks, a track record was set at Scioto Downs Racino. Unefoisdansmavie took the Open Trot field by storm on Friday after sitting third the first three-quarters of a mile and won by seven lengths in a scorching 1:52.2.
The mark now is the new all-age trotting track record. The previous record was taken in 2005 by Taddy Strikes Again and Brett Miller, who went in 1:54.
Tony Hall drove the six-year-old mare by Revenue S for trainer Ron Burke, who went off at 3-1. Race favourite Southwind Pepino left from the nine-hole for trainer/driver Hugh “Sandy” Beatty and finished a fast-closing second.
Hall had never driven Unefoisdansmavie before, but had “raced against her a lot at the Meadows so I kinda knew she was good either way, she could come from behind or race up close,” he explained. “I just wanted to land up close and see what happened.”
The mile ties the mare’s personal best, which was set at The Meadowlands in January. Unefoisdansmavie, which is French for “once in my life,” is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Jack Piatt III and has over $266,000 on her card.
Hall ended the night with three wins and two seconds in 10 starts. Reigning leading driver Chris Page had four wins, three seconds and a third on the night in 11 drives; Page currently sits sixth in the leading driver standings in the country in terms of wins.
Racing continues Saturday, with a scheduled first post of 6:30 p.m. The Super High Five for the ninth race will have a double carryover. The 11-horse field is a non-winners of $1,750 last four pace for a purse of $5,000 and Pin Stripes is the morning line favourite at 3-1 for trainer Scott Mogan and Tony Hall. Ryan Stahl will leave from post three with the second favourite Double Dribble, who took her season’s best 1:53.1 at Woodbine Racetrack back in March.
