Market Share romped to a nine length victory in the second of two New Jersey Sire Stakes divisions for three-year-old colt trotters on Friday night at the Meadowlands
Racetrack.
Driven by Tim Tetrick, Market Share saved all the ground and easily scooped up the lion’s share of the $19,500 purse after chief rival Big Chocolate broke stride entering the final turn. Market Share ($4) trotted the mile in a career best 1:53.1. Muscolo finished far behind in second after carving the early fractions. Highland Yankee was third.
Market Share, trained by Linda Toscano, was undefeated in five starts as a two-year-old last year. The son of Revenue-Classical Flirt was a $16,000 yearling purchase at the Lexington Selected Sale. Richard Gutnick of Blue Bell and Gary Cocco of New Town Square, Pennsylvania own the colt, who is being pointed toward the $1.5 million Hambletonian on August 4. Toscano, Gutnick and Cocco campaigned 2011 Hambletonian finalist Chapter Seven, who finished fourth in the $1.5 million final.
Little Brown Fox, another Hambletonian hopeful, won the first of the two NJSS splits by a nose over Vic Smith. Trainer-driver Jimmy Takter steered the son of Muscles Yankee to a 1:54.1 score. Takter’s wife, Christina, co-owns the colt with brothers John and Jim Fielding of Toronto, Ont. and Brittany Farms of Versailles, Kentucky.
Riverfest (by Windsongs Legacy) and Vanity Treasure (by Muscles Yankee) took the filly divisions. Riverfest cruised wire-to-wire in 1:53.4 for driver Mike Lachance and trainer Joseph King, who co-owns the filly with Marvin Meyer of New York, New York. Vanity Treasure squeezed through an opening in deep stretch to take her split by a neck in 1:55.2. Andy Miller steered the lass to her first win of the season for trainer Chris Ryder and partners Max and Tamra Wernick of New City, New York.
