Five horsemen have been suspended indefinitely as a result of the ongoing race fixing allegations

in Michigan.

Multiple sources indicate the suspended horsemen are Donald Currier Jr., Donald Harmon, Wally McIlmurray, John Moody, Richard Ray.

"They have no ability to race or participate in any of our regulated races in Michigan," said Rick Kalm, executive director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, told the Detroit Free Press.

According to harnessracing.com, the horsemen were subpoenaed by the state's Gaming Control Board to produce financial records for the past two years, but at a Thursday, May 20 hearing all five failed to provide any records and instead invoked their Fifth Amendment rights to abstain from testifying.

On Friday night at Hazel Park, Currier, Harmon, McIlmurray and Moody were removed from their drives and horses trained by Harmon were scratched.

In March, police raided three homes after a year-long investigation that could have involved as many as 30 people. No criminal charges have been filed.

Why don't we just make harness racing a spectator sport without pari-mutuel wagering? The purses are healthy enough with lottery and casino dollars added-aren't they?. There will be no more griping about the "fair-start" pole, because the tax dollars derived from the horse that was 30 lengths behind at the word "Go" will now be a moot point! Let us see how many of our hard working owners, trainers, and drivers will hang aroung for racing without wagering.....Hmmm!

says " Just another BLACK EYE" for the sport we love so much. This kind of deception is exactly the reason why the sport is in the condition it's in! This is what separates the REAL professionals from those that want to be and decide to misguide the public in order to do so.
