Rudy Rocks disappointed as the favourite in last week’s edition of the $10,000 Preferred Trot at Grand River Raceway, but he bounced back with a winning effort in Monday’s follow-up assignment
.
The four-year-old son of Striking Sahbra, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Rene Allard, got away seventh in the nine-horse affair and he stayed in that position all the way to the three-quarter pole. Indiana Hall, in the meantime, had whacked out fractions of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:28.4.
Rudy Rocks was fourth over in the flow and things were looking pretty grim for the gelding until Scott Coulter stepped on the accelerator and ‘Rudy’ took off. He sprinted around rivals and used his :29.2 closing kick to win in going away fashion by 1-1/4 lengths. Logans Hero, who was first over, held on bravely to finish second, while Flashback tracked cover from second over and finished third.
Allard shares ownership on the 11-time winner with partner Anne O’Keefe of Ferryland, NL. Together they’ve watched the square gaiter put together a 4-2-0 record from this year’s 13-start campaign, and along the way he’s added more than $66,000 to his lifetime bankroll which stands at $157,535 following Monday’s triumph.
