Snobelen On Sudbury Impasse

John Snobelen of Ontario Horse Racing has provided a brief comment regarding the status of negotiations between the province and the operators of Sudbury Downs.

With negotiations over a funding agreement still ongoing, the Ontario Racing Commission has yet to approve any 2014 race dates for the Sudbury racetrack.

Sudbury Downs had applied for 32 dates of live racing this year, the first of which was proposed to be this Saturday (May 24).

An article by the CBC has quoted Snobelen as saying that the province has tabled an offer.

"In the case of Sudbury Downs, there’s an offer from the province that’s been tabled,” Snobelen was quoted as saying. “The form of that offer is a transfer payment agreement that’s very similar with the other dozen or so agreements that have been executed across the province.”

It was announced on Thursday (May 22) that the ORC has reached a deal with Kawartha Downs which will see live racing return to the Peterborough area in 2014.
