A pair of series finals highlighted Vernon Downs' harness racing card on Saturday night (May 20).
Three-year-old pacing colt Skibbereen ($8.60) broke his maiden in the $12,000 final of the Anthony Farina Pacing Series in rein to John MacDonald. The Real Desire gelding, trained by Kyle Spagnola for owner W J Donovan, was fourth after three-quarters, passing Nostrovia (Wade Tomaszewski) in the stretch to win in 1:55.4 by two lengths.
American JJ ($4), driven by Michael Miller, inherited the win the $12,300 final of the Robert Keller Trotting Series after Pipe Dream Express (Jimmy Wittemore) caused interference in the stretch and was first-placed-second. American JJ, a four-year-old son of Jailhouse Jesse trained and driven by Michael Miller, completed a sweep of the three-week series. His winning time was 1:56.4.
