According to a report, the somewhat controversial new mascot for the Preakness' infield party, Kegasus, is preaching to revelers of the racing party to get down with restraint and common sense
.
An article by USA Today states that Kegasus this week made it clear that partygoers should not let themselves get out of control.
"'Legendariness' includes being conscious, remembering what one has done and exercising what each and every human being and animal in instilled with, which is common sense," he said.
The Preakness Stakes, the second jewel in the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing, is to take place this Saturday (May 21), and organizers are looking to boost attendance back to the size the day drew in the early and mid-2000s.
The USA Today article explains that attendance dropped to 77,850 in 2009 after having topped 100,000 for eight consecutive years. The dip in '09 coincided with a new rule which banned fans from bringing their own beer or other alcohol onto the infield. Last year, with the 'Get Your Preak On' campaign, attendance rose to 95,760.
