What do you get when you cross Camystic with Real Chop? A gorgeous little filly named ‘Pickles On Top.’
‘Pickles On Top’ was the winning submission in the ‘Name That Foal’ contest sponsored by Meridian Farms and the Alberta Standardbred Horse Association. Six-year-old Rachel Ratsoy of Edmonton was the creative genius behind the name.
“The entries were wonderful,” said Orianna Scheck, project coordinator for ASHA, “The names were resourceful and unique and the drawings were awesome! They were creative and very artistic. You could tell the children were proud of their drawings and had a ton of fun. “
The Name That Foal contest was broken up into three age groups: 6 and under, 7 to 12 and 13 to 18. A winner from each age group was selected and the final decision came from those top three entries. Along with each name choice, entries had to be accompanied by a letter of explanation and bonus points were awarded if a drawing accompanied the letter.
‘Like Im Candy’ was the winning submission for the 7 to 12-year-old category, entered by 10-year-old Kamber Hoerdt. ‘Camys Girl,’ submitted by 13-year-old Jamie Ward, was the winner in the 13-18-year-old division.
A prize was also awarded for the ‘Best Picture Drawing with a Story’ and the accolades went to 12-year-old Linde Melnyk.
Rachel Ratsoy is very excited about ‘Pickles’ future. She plans to be Pickles On Top’s devoted fan and to follow the filly’s racing career. Rachel is looking forward to eventually meeting her in person and seeing her race.
