Who would harness racing's sharpest minds select in the 2019 Trot Magazine Fantasy Stable? Trot Insider will feature 'expert picks' in advance of the deadline for this year's contest, brought to you in partnership with the Breeders Crown.
New to the Fantasy Stable expert panel, award-winning trainer Paul Kelley has offered his analysis for the 2019 Fantasy Stable. The trainer behind the likes of trotting stars Quick Credit (the dam of Wheeling N Dealin), Crazy About Pat and millionaire Obrigado has honed in on a pair of well-bred freshman trotting colts in Group K that caught his eye last fall.
"Gangster Hanover was my top pick for trotting colts in the Harrisburg sale. I absolutely loved him when I saw him at Hanover. He’s a big colt and very correct. I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t make an impression in the two-year-old division this year."
Gangster Hanover (Father Patrick - Global Desire) was purchased by Ake Svanstedt Inc., S R F Stable and Brittany Farms LLC. Svanstedt currently has the horse in training.
"Father Jonathan is from a mare (Sleep Tight My Luv) that I trained for Bill Weaver. The colt was a real eye-catcher at the Lexington Select Sale and obviously his $275,000 sale price reflects that. Yes, he’s a later foal but he looked very mature at Fasig Tipton. It’s a fantastic pedigree that is bound to produce a top colt one day. This guy could be it."
Another son of Father Patrick, Father Jonathon was purchased by Al Libfeld and entrusted to trainer Marcus Melander.
