For the second week in a row, Fox Valley Veto ($6.70) slammed the door on his rivals, delivering a 6-1/2 length drubbing in Wednesday night's (May 15) $9,400 Preferred 3 Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
The eight-year-old Pizzazzed gelding was unhurried early, stalking Katch Kanna (Tyler Moore) and Avuncular (Tyler Borth) through a :28 first quarter before making his first-over ascent nearing race's midpoint. Just after Katch Kanna reached the half in :58.2, the pressure was on from Fox Valley Veto.
Through the clubhouse turn, Fox Valley Veto and Marc St. Louis Jr. encroached steadily, taking the lead and edging away past three-quarters in 1:27.3. The pair drew off steadily to a dominant 1:57.2 win over fast going, while Avuncular escaped traffic to narrowly take second from Katch Kanna.
Patrick Shepherd trains Fox Valley Veto, now a 39-time winner and a five-time winner this season, for the Vogel And Wags Nags Stable and Jack Rice.
