After some “close but no cigar” performances to start the 2011 season, the Murray Brethour-trained Drain Daddy clicked for a win at Woodbine Racetrack
on Thursday evening.
Drain Daddy, who is listed at 80-1 in Trot Magazine's Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book, found himself parked past the quarter pole before he touched down on the lead for driver Rick Zeron.
Once in command of the tempo, the three-year-old son of Mach Three-Boy Meets Girl lulled the field to sleep through pedestrian middle splits of :57 and 1:25.2. Zeron lit the afterburners on the colt turning for home, and the pacer used a :26.4 final frame to out-sprint his foes to the line in 1:52.1 – a career best performance.
Bred and owned by Stephen Scarff of Halifax, NS, Drain Daddy improved his 2011 record to 1-3-0 from just four trips postward. He was winless in five starts as a rookie.
