A three-week gap in his schedule after battling sickness and a march up to the Preferred ranks were two logical reasons for handicappers to be concerned about Kashas Kid in Tuesday’s assignment at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, but the gelding passed the test with flying colours
.
Trainer Tom Williscraft had the seven-year-old son of Andover Hall-Kasha Hanover, who is now a three-time winner in four starts since being claimed, on his toes en route to posting a handy score in the featured trotting tilt.
Trevor Henry hustled Kashas Kid to the lead from Post 2 and the gelding successfully front-stepped his way through intervals of :29, :59.3 and 1:28.3 before using a :29.2 final frame en route to posting the two-length triumph over race favourite Chewey in 1:58. Long Ago rallied well to finish third.
Patrick McIlhargey of Lucan, ON shelled out $20,000 to claim the gelding on March 9, 2012, and since the acquisition the 26-time winner has stashed away more than $16,000. The veteran has banked more than $280,000 to date.
