Fearless Diablo and driver Trace Tetrick found the winner’s circle for the second consecutive time after turning in a sharp, front-running effort to capture the featured event, a $21,000 Invitational Pace, at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Saturday, April 9.
In just his second start of the season, the Dylan Davis trainee switched up his tactics from the previous week and was a decisive winner in 1:51.3 over seven other rivals.
Tetrick wasted no time as he sent Fearless Diablo away from the gate firing from post eight and they reached the front through an opening panel in :27.2. Nitro and Ricky Macomber Jr. benefitted from a pocket trip while TGs Divine Scene and Sam Widger were next in line third.
Fearless Diablo went uncontested down the backside and cruised through middle fractions of :56 and 1:24 before ever feeling a threat from the rest of the field. As the field turned for home, Nitro looked poised to strike from the pocket, but Fearless Diablo wasn’t finished.
Saving his best for last, Fearless Diablo kicked home in :27.3 to win by two lengths over Nitro. TGs Divine Scene rounded out the trifecta.
Sent off as the public's choice, Fearless Diablo returned $5 to his backers at the betting windows.
“Trace [Tetrick] said he was going to switch it up tonight; he raced off the back last week so we decided to give the front a try tonight,” noted Julian Williams, the Dylan Davis Stable’s second trainer. “All you have to do is ask him [Fearless Diablo]. He’s so versatile, he can go either way. He gives 110 percent every week and if a horse looks him in the eye, that’s when he really digs in. He’s an amazing animal.”
Owned by Michael Casalino and Dylan Davis, the eight-year-old horse has now amassed $269,895 lifetime. The win marked his 25th lifetime victory and one of four winners on the 14-race card for Tetrick.
It was the second consecutive night Tetrick scored a grand slam at Hoosier Park. On Friday, Tetrick had four wins and with it, surpassed Ricky Macomber Jr. on the all-time leading driver standings at Hoosier Park. Tetrick currently leads all drivers in 2016 with 17 wins on the season.
