Grand River Raceway (GRR) announced on Tuesday, April 28 that Christine Fairhall has assumed the role of Raceway Manager.

Fairhall stepped into this role in preparation of the 2026 harness racing season at GRR. She transitions into this role at GRR after Jenna MacDonell exited the role this past month.

Harness racing has been a prominent part of life for Fairhall, rooted in a strong family legacy. Her grandfather, Keith Waples, laid the foundation for a multi-generational connection to the sport that continues to this day.

Raised at racetracks in Orangeville, Elmira and Hanover, Fairhall was immersed in the racing world from an early age. Her mother worked as a photo-finish camera operator and for the Ontario Sire Stakes (OSS), and her father trained and raced in Ontario and Quebec, all while raising their family. It was only natural that Fairhall’s first job would also be in the industry.

Over the past 32 years, Fairhall has developed a comprehensive understanding of racetrack operations, primarily on the grandstand side. Her work experience includes concessions, trophy creation, timing, photo-finish (dating back to the era of film development), new player event organizing, as well as pari-mutuel and tote/race day operations. This diverse background has given her a deep appreciation for the collaboration and precision required to deliver a successful race day experience.

For more than a decade, Fairhall has been a valued member of the GRR team. In her new role, she is focused on supporting her colleagues and contributing to the continued growth and success of the raceway.

“Harness racing has always been a passion of mine,” said Fairhall. “I’ve been fortunate to have been involved with so many aspects of the industry alongside incredible family and team members over the years. I’m excited to step into this role, continue learning from our team and help build on the strong foundation we have here at Grand River Raceway as we head into the 2026 season!”

GRR looks forward to the experience and enthusiasm Fairhall brings to her new position as preparations ramp up for another exciting season of live harness racing.

GRR’s racing season begins on Wednesday, June 3 with a post time of 6:20 p.m. The community is invited to come out for free family-friendly fun and/or for dinner and drinks while enjoying live racing.
