Veteran horseman Mike Saftic was named to the Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame two years ago, and it has been announced that the same honour will soon be bestowed upon another area horseman.

Longtime harness racing trainer and driver Mike Noble will be inducted into the Greater Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame at the 50th annual Sports Celebrity Dinner to be held on June 13 at the Caruso Club in Sudbury, Ont.

A mainstay at Sudbury Downs since the northern Ontario racetrack opened in June 1974 to its closure in October 2013, Noble drove 1,854 winners during his career and earned 640 victories as a trainer.

“It is quite an honour,” Noble told the Manitoulin Expositor. “I’ll be the first harness racer who raced in northern Ontario to be inducted. Mike Saftic was the first, but he raced mostly in southern Ontario. It is quite an honour.”

In fact Saftic, who was part of the Class of 2016, was one of Noble's nominators.

Selected from more than 100 nominees by a committee, Noble will be inducted into the Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame along with nine other individuals and one team.

When I was much younger I always looked forward to spending my summers at Sudbury Downs working for either my father or Neil McRann. And every summer I was there Mike Noble was the Kingpin. Without a doubt he was the best driver there at the time. My only question now is - What took so long? Congrats Mike you earned it!

Congratulations to both Gentleman for getting this Honour !! You would need a really good hand to beat this pair.
