In what was arguably the best and closest race of the night, former Autumn Stakes champion Windsong Ingenius, a four-year-old Ontario-sired Kadabra gelding, won the $11,000 Open Trot at Buffalo Raceway Friday night (April 26).
The win was the second in four Buffalo Raceway starts for Windsong Ingenius, trained by John Mungillo for new owners Arrhythmic LLC of West Seneca, New York.
Driver Ray Fisher Jr. put Windsong Ingenius ($14.20) on the lead and he set all the fractions in the race of :29.1, 1:58.3, and 1:28.3 to the three-quarter marker. A :30 last quarter-mile put the winner a neck in front of second-place finisher Under The Stars (Jim McNeight) at the finish line in 1:57.4. Hailstorm Volo (Ron Beback Jr.) was just a neck back in third.
The $5,500 winner's share of purse put Windsong Ingenius’ seasonal earnings at $26,740 and lifetime earnings at $120,035. The win was his ninth in 47 lifetime starts.
Racing will resume on Saturday, April 27 with first post scheduled for 6:40 p.m. eastern time. The Pick 7 still has not been hit since the beginning of the meet and sits at $27,297.63 going into Saturday night. The Pick 7 starts in race six.
