The last time Twin B Warrior faced the starting gate, he went on to be crowned the 2009 Grassroots champion of the Ontario Sires Stakes
at Rideau Carleton Raceway. Trainer Jeff Gillis is hoping for bigger and better things from the pacer this year, and the first hurdle towards accomplishing that goal begins Monday morning at Mohawk Racetrack.
The three-year-old son of Apaches Fame-What An Attitude, who is listed at odds of 38-1 in Trot Magazine's Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book, is scheduled to earn his first charted line of the season at the Campbellville, Ontario oval during tomorrow morning’s six-race session of qualifiers.
Twin B Warrior has drawn post eight in the second qualifier, with Jody Jamieson listed to drive the winner of $83,000.
Trainer Jeff Gillis recently discussed the colt's progress withTrot Insider. Here’s a progress report on the youngster, who put together a 3-1-0 record in four starts as a freshman and took a speed badge of 1:53.3 in the $100,000 final of the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots:
Where did he spend the winter and what has he been like coming back?
He was turned out Ideal Training Center here. His owner Mac Nichol owns the training center we’re stabled at and he was turned out here.
And how’s he been like coming back?
It’s been pretty uneventful with him so far. Everything is on schedule.
Have you noticed any changes in the horse compared to last year?
Not really, he was kind of big mature colt last year. I would say he’s a lot the same.
How much have you been with him
I've been in 2:05 with him at the farm.
What is the timeline like for him leading up to the Cup, including qualifiers and prep races?
Our target is, I think, he’s got the Bud Light at Flamboro around the middle of May and then the Upper Canada Cup is our plan.
