Chewey was a front-stepping winner in the $15,500 Preferred Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on April 3, but from the seven-hole in last week’s bid to repeat he was a non-factor fifth
. The gelding started from Post 2 in Tuesday’s follow-up assignment, and he didn’t let the advantageous post go to waste.
Driver Rob Sparling, Jr. hustled Chewey to immediate command, and the Ed Galinski pupil whacked out fractions of :27.4, :59.1 and 1:27.4 before coasting home in :31.4 to post the one-length decision over Chinnys Wings in 1:59.3. Indiana Hall, who was looking to extend his winning streak to four-in-a-row, had to settle for a third-place finish in the featured tilt.
Chewey, a six-year-old son of Trainforthefuture-Marie Adonno, improved this year’s record to 4-0-3 from 10 starts while pushing his yearly bankroll to $32,435 with the win. The homebred, who is owned by Ronald Dale Randall of Berlin Center, OH, is now a 14-time winner who has stashed away in excess of $131,000 to date.
